What is Easter All About?

You might know Easter for chocolate eggs, family time, or a long weekend. But Easter actualy comes from a true story that Christians believe changed the world.

About 2,000 years ago there was a man named Jesus. He travelled from town to town teaching people about God. He welcomed people who felt forgotten, healed the sick, and spoke about love, forgiveness and a new way of living.

Many people where drawn to him. But some powerful leaders didn’t like what he was saying. Jesus was arrested and sentenced to death. He was executed on a Roman cross. This happened on a Friday, which Christians now call Good Friday.

Jesus’ friends were devastated. They placed his body in a tomb ( a cave ) and sealed it with a large stone.

But the story didn’t end there.

On the Sunday morning, some of Jesus’ followers went to the tomb. The stone had been moved. The tomb was empty. Soon after, many people said they saw Jesus alive again.

Christians believe this is the most important moment in history. They believe that Jesus rose from the dead and that through him people can find forgiveness, hope, and a new beginning with God.

That’s what Easter celebrates.

Easter is really about hope, new life, and the chance to start again.

If you’d like to read the story yourself, a great place to start is in the Bible in Luke chapters 23 and 24.

If this raises questions for you, or if you’d like to explore the story of Jesus more, we would love to hear from you at WWV Church. We’re always happy to talk, listen, and help people discover more about the message of Easter.
